Mississippi Covering Kids & Families Initiative

Grant Overview
The Office of the Governor, Division of Medicaid (DOM), has been designated by a Statewide Coalition to be the lead agency for preparing and administrating the State's Covering Kids & Families grant. It is appropriate for this agency to coordinate these efforts since it is already the agency responsible for administering not only Medicaid but the SCHIP program as well. This Statewide Coalition has roots in the Children's Health Matters Improving Linkages Task Force. To assure a new beginning and to assure this Coalition has an independent voice from Children's Health Matters and from the DOM (Lead Agency), this Coalition has elected its own independent chair and has approved and is functioning under a separate set of by-laws. The goals of this Health Initiative Support Grant are: 1) to conduct and coordinate outreach programs; 2) to simplify the enrollment and renewal process; 3) to coordinate existing state and local health care coverage programs; 4) and to create strategies and activities to remedy the current state of affairs which keep so many eligible children in Mississippi lacking health care.
